What We Do
The Golden K mission is to serve children of all ages in McLean County. We provide annual grants to many local child-centered non-profits.
We also support Stevenson Elementary School financially and in person under the auspices of Promise Council of Bloomington/Normal.
Golden K Signature Project
In March 2021 the Promise Council at the Adlai E. Stevenson III (Stevenson School) Elementary School was selected as Golden K’s "Signature Project."
The mission of the Promise Council is to create a sustainable network of caring adults to provide resources and remove barriers to education so all children can achieve success.
Each school is unique with unique needs. We work with Mrs. Lynn Shook, school principal, to prioritize the work we will be doing with the school.
Some of the Golden K activities at Stevenson School have included:
- purchasing and assembling tables for a new Literacy Garden
- planting and tending flowers in the Literacy Garden
- packing Hope bags for kids in need with food to be taken home to be eaten over the weekend
- providing gift cards to Stevenson school teachers for Teacher Appreciation Day
- reading one on one with Stevenson School students
- providing clothing and school supplies that teachers can provide their students
The mission of the Promise Council complements ours. We are helping one school with a cadre of caring adults.
